2018 Wrestling Venues
15st Championship, 4th Trevor Hodgson, 3rd Richard Fox, 2nd Ben Brocklebank, 1st Graham Brocklebank Graham Brocklebank winner 15 Stone Championship.
In a busy weekend of wrestling, when events came two by two, there were, appropriately, two championship events: little and large. The more substantial wrestlers competed for the 15st title at Dalston Show, and two days earlier at Appleby Show the Under 18 Years and 10st championship was on offer.

Quite simply, the heavier end of the wrestling at Dalston was swamped by Brocklebanks; Graham met his brother Ben in the final of the 15 stones Championship, and then, just to rub it in, he won the All Weights too. It was hipe, hipe, hipe, all the way.
Graham Brocklebank is a superb wrestler, but is not invincible, as was shown at Appleby Show when he was in full flow with a win in the 13½ stones, but ended up losing the All Weights final to a lightweight. Andrew Carlile stepped in sharply to twist him over the knee for the first fall, and then was even sharper with an inside-click and twist for the second. Otherwise Brocklebank was unstoppable at Appleby, Ings, and Dalston. Just for a change, little brother, Ben won the 13 stones at Lowther and big brother Thomas won the Heavyweights.

Matthew Lamont, the winner, and other competitors at the Under 18/10st Championship at Appleby ShowMatthew Lamont, the Rothbury lightweight, had his busiest wrestling session ever. He began by winning the final of the Under 18 Years and 10st Championship against a sprightly Matty Hodgson on the Thursday; the Under 18s at Slaley on the Saturday and a double win at his local Forestburngate on the Sunday.

Jack Brown had a good day at Slaley when he won all three men's weights. True, he was not up against Brocklebanks and the Richard Foxes of this world, but he was well pushed by some of his heavy and powerful friends, for he is a local lad in that area.

In the best of the rest Bobby Stewart broke his duck at Appleby and then won again at Lowther, much better than his dad who sort of collapsed in the ring at Slaley under severe pressure. Hannah Hodgson won a wonderful old silver salver for the ladies at Lowther. Mark Wharton and Ryan Armstrong brightened up the wrestling wherever they went with their hiping. And my grand-daughter, Gemma Coulthard had four wins to add to her score this year.
